It was a very moving part of the service

Reuben celebrated his Bar Mitzvah on
12 November 2022 at Barnet Synagogue

On the Shabbat morning, Reuben sang his portion beautifully in Barnet Shul. Following his reading, Rabbi Landau gave an account of the Parsha and delivered a heart-warming speech to Reuben. During these words, Rabbi Landau mentioned that Reuben was twinning his Bar Mitzvah with Reuven, a young boy who was tragically murdered during the Holocaust and was unable to have a Bar Mitzvah of his own. It was a very moving part of the service and everyone in attendance mentioned how wonderful this was to be able to bring such a touching addition to Reuben’s special day.

At the party, we also had a special board produced for everyone to see and to add his Bar Mitzvah twin to the celebrations we thoroughly enjoyed. We truly felt we did Reuven proud and hope his memory will live on through our own celebration memories.

He wore his Yad Vashem UK pin with pride in Shul, and the next day at his celebration party.

Jordan celebrated his Bar Mitzvah on 29 August 2020. He had a zoom with family and friends from London and all around the world on Thursday 27 August 2020. He was lucky enough to lein in Shul on Shabbat morning 29 August 2020.

Joshua twinned with Josua Boesenach who was born in June 1931. He was deported age 12 to Auschwitz and murdered in a gas chamber. He never got to celebrate his Bar Mitzvah. “As I celebrate my Bar Mitzvah he will be on my mind."

I had my Bat Mitzvah in July 2019. For my Bat Mitzvah, I twinned with Yad Vashem UK Foundation. They twinned me with a girl named Alice Chana Grunwald, a surname that my family also used. Sadly, Alice Chana did not survive to celebrate her Bat Mitzvah, as she perished at Auschwitz.
