...I should like someone to remember that there once lived a person named David Berger.
Guardian of the Memory
Yad Vashem UK’s aim through our Guardian of the Memory project, ensures that the victims’ life stories are never forgotten, becoming part of our own treasured family histories by lighting a memorial candle in their honour on every HMD and Yom HaShoah.
There were 6 million Jewish victims of the Holocaust, murdered by shootings, starvation, slave labour and industrialised killings in death camps. Of these victims, 1.5 million were children, cruelly denied a future, and innocent of any crimes, apart from the perceived one of being born Jewish. Some one million victims remain unidentified.
Millions of Jewish people were murdered without a trace during the Shoah. It is incumbent upon us to remember them. If we do not take action, their legacies will be lost to us forever.
Find out more about our packages:
Standard package
As time passes, the memory of those who were murdered in the Holocaust fades, and becomes increasingly difficult, and this provides a challenge as to how we can continue to tell their stories?
Stories about ordinary people and families, their communities, friends, likes and dislikes, goals and aspirations.
Our Guardian of the Memory project helps continue to tell the story of a victim of the Holocaust whose life was tragically cut short.
This package allows you to choose a name of a victim who was murdered during the Holocaust. You will then become a Guardian of their memory. We will send out, by email, a reminder every year to light a candle in their honour on every HMD and Yom HaShoah to ensure that the victims’ life stories are never forgotten.
No donation is required, but any donation is much appreciated.
Enhanced package
As time passes, the memory of those who were murdered in the Holocaust fades, and becomes increasingly difficult, and this provides a challenge as to how we can continue to tell their stories?
Stories about ordinary people and families, their communities, friends, likes and dislikes, goals and aspirations.
Our extended Guardian of the Memory project helps continue to tell the story of a victim of the Holocaust whose life was tragically cut short.
Once the Guardian of the memory form is completed, researchers at Yad Vashem will endeavour to find a victim with a similar name or family connection, and will receive a Guardian of the Memory Pack, containing a Page of Testimony a Study Guide, Certificate and a specially designed pin.
Family members are encouraged to use the Study Guide and Page of Testimony to learn as much as they can about the history of the Shoah and an insight into the life of the victim with whom they have become a Guardian of their family and the community they came from as well as learning about the victim’s experience during the Holocaust.
We ask for a £50 donation on application
