I will be sure to honour her memory and be grateful for the opportunities I have been given.
I am very fortunate to be able to celebrate my Bat Mitzvah during the of March and I am participating in the Yad Vashem UK Foundation’s very special Shoah Twinning Project.
My Hebrew name is Chava and I have been twinned with a young, innocent victim of the Holocaust called Chaya Zaks. Chaya was born in 1932 in Lithuania and perished in 1941, therefore, tragically she did not live to celebrate her Bat Mitzvah.
This project is meaningful to me because I believe that it is so important not to forget what happened during the Holocaust and to always remember each and every Jew who perished and had their futures stolen from them in such a cruel and tragic way. I also lost family who were born in Lithuania and I think about how much this changed the course of the future and Jewish families.
It makes me so sad to think that Chaya was murdered at such a young age but I will be sure to honour her memory and be grateful for the opportunities I have been given.
