Shmooze and Cake
An hour with Holocaust survivors
13 February 2023
On Monday 13 February 2023, Yad Vashem UK Foundation, hosted a ‘Shmooze and Cake’ morning, where 10 Twinning participants joined Holocaust survivors at the Holocaust Survivors’ Centre in Amelie House, Jewish Care’s HQ for an hour. The idea was to bring “twins” and survivors together for a chat to get to know one another.
It was a really meaningful and memorable event both for the twinning participants and for the survivors in a relaxed environment. It gave them the chance to talk about the child they were twinned with and explain to the Holocaust survivors a little about our programme.
The morning was very well attending and inspirational for all.
It was an absolute honour to visit the holocaust survivor centre and to speak with the survivors. Although some of the stories that were shared to me were utterly devastating, it really put into context the importance of continuing to learn about the holocaust and for that I am hugely grateful to have had this opportunity. I look forward to continue to work with Yad Vashem UK.
It was an extremely special experience for him. He was truly moved by meeting Rachel and Sylvia, recounting back to me in detail their life stories.
