My Project is a painting of me and Lyla Tevet, who I was twinned with, standing side by side in different years, showing how different our lives are. Lyla Tevet is unfortunately in a concentration camp and I am fortunate enough to be standing free.

In the sky there are lots of clouds representing aspects of our lives. On Lyla Tevet’s side there is a cloud with her birthplace, in Greece and the concentration camp where she was murdered. She was born in Drama, Macedonia in Greece and sadly died in Treblinka extermination camp. In another cloud there is a 7 which is the age she sadly died at. In the sky there is also her family tree, showing other members of her family who were also sadly killed in the camp. On my side of the sky shows my connection to the Holocaust. My Great Grandma, from Poland survived the Holocaust with her brother, unfortunately the rest of her family were not so lucky. There is a yellow hostage symbol in the sky too which shows that Jews sadly still face discrimination to this day and we are not all free.

I really liked taking part in this programme to learn more about my heritage and the strength of the Jewish people.  Thank you for the opportunity.

Jordan celebrated his Bar Mitzvah on 29 August 2020. He had a zoom with family and friends from London and all around the world on Thursday 27 August 2020. He was lucky enough to lein in Shul on Shabbat morning 29 August 2020.

Joshua twinned with Josua Boesenach who was born in June 1931. He was deported age 12 to Auschwitz and murdered in a gas chamber. He never got to celebrate his Bar Mitzvah. “As I celebrate my Bar Mitzvah he will be on my mind."

I had my Bat Mitzvah in July 2019. For my Bat Mitzvah, I twinned with Yad Vashem UK Foundation. They twinned me with a girl named Alice Chana Grunwald, a surname that my family also used. Sadly, Alice Chana did not survive to celebrate her Bat Mitzvah, as she perished at Auschwitz.

Barney Leboff, from Shenley wanted to do something more than leyn from the Torah for his Bar mitzvah, so he twinned his Bar Mitzvah with Carol Smulovici, a young Romanian boy who was murdered during the Holocaust.
