Sculpting of Holocaust survivor Ruth Posner BEM
International sculptor Frances Segelman sculpted Holocaust survivor Ruth Posner BEM on 5th February 2024.
Ruth Posner was sculpted as part of a series of sculptures being created by Leeds-born Frances Segelman, who has sculpted HRH The King, HM Queen Elizabeth and HRH Prince Philip.
The significance of Frances Segelman’s work in producing sculptures of Holocaust survivors is to be commended. Remembering the past, Honouring the Memory, and shaping the future is the ethos of Yad Vashem UK Foundation.
In the words of Ruth Posner BEM:
I feel very honoured for being immortalised by such a wonderful artist. The atmosphere and the event was very special and Frances is a phenomenal artist. It was a great experience.
In the words of Frances Segelman:
Ruth Posner is such an incredible force of nature, and I loved the opportunity to sculpt her, capturing her beauty and grace. Also it was such a pleasure to meet her wonderful husband Michael of 74 years – what a remarkable couple they are.
In the words of Simon Bentley, Chairman, Yad Vashem UK:
This is the 8th sculpting that we have done in association with Frances Segelman. The first was of Sir Ben Helfgott, which is now on permanent display at the National Portrait Gallery. As is widely acknowledged, Frances produces outstanding works of quality and impact when viewed. Working with her on the sculpting of Ruth Posner has, as always been a pleasure and a privilege.
